Finding your perfect corset fit starts with one thing: knowing your measurements. Unlike ready-to-wear clothing, corsets are sized by your natural waist — not your dress size, jeans size, or bra size. Getting this right is the difference between a corset that feels like a second skin and one that gaps, pinches, or just sits wrong.
At Charm and Cinch, we design for the fuller-bust, smaller-waist silhouette — so precision matters even more. Here's exactly how to measure yourself.
What You'll Need
- A soft measuring tape (the kind used for sewing)
- A mirror, or a friend to help
- Form-fitting clothing or bare skin for accuracy
The 3 Key Measurements
1. Natural Waist
This is your most important measurement. Stand relaxed (don't suck in!), and wrap the tape around the narrowest part of your torso — usually 1–2 inches above your belly button. This is your corset size.
Pro tip: Bend side to side — your natural waist is the crease where your body folds.
2. Underbust
Measure directly under your bust, where a bra band sits. Keep the tape snug but not tight. This measurement helps confirm whether a specific corset style will work with your frame.
3. High Hip / Upper Hip
Measure around the widest part of your hip bones — typically 7–9 inches below your natural waist. For curvy figures, this measurement ensures the corset skims your hips without digging in.
Understanding Corset Sizing
Most corsets are labeled by the natural waist measurement they're designed to achieve when laced. When starting out, choose a corset that is 2–4 inches smaller than your natural waist. This is called the "reduction" — and it's what creates that beautiful cinched silhouette.
For example, if your natural waist is 32", a 28" or 30" corset is a great starting point.
Fuller Bust Considerations
If you have a fuller bust (DD+ or a large cup relative to your band size), pay close attention to the underbust measurement and the corset's busk (front closure) length. A corset that's too long in the torso can push up uncomfortably into your bust. Look for styles designed with shorter torso lengths or adjustable silhouettes — like the styles we carry specifically for this body type.
